The Northwest Flyers showed up with their defense Saturday ready to face one of their toughest opponents, the Portland River Hawks from the Northwest Wood Bat Independent Baseball League, just 12 hours after committing eight errors in one game. Nick Butterfield was the defensive player of the day at third base picking off one hot shot after another! Jaime Cortez (Flyers 1995-1997) pitched three innings and went 3-4 at the plate with a home run. The Flyers won the first game 10-15 with 20 hits. Nick Butterfield 4-5, Sterling Haas 2-4, Vinnie (Toyota) Carillo 4-4,Israel Hernandez 2-2, Dan Brusick 2-4.
Nate Villegas pitched a complete game in the second game of the day giving up just six hits and getting the win over the River Hawks bringing their record to 15-4. The Flyers knocked out 10 hits of their own with Nick Butterfield going 3-4 with two doubles, Vinnie (Toyota) Carillo 2-3, and Dan Brusick went 2-2. Photos

Mariners 8, NW Flyers 8
In their first game after a 12 day break, the Flyers played to an 8-8 tie called due to darkness against the Mariners. The Flyers struggled defensively for the first time all season committing eight errors and giving up seven unearned runs. They racked up 10 hits, including a triple by Sam Glazier, and capitalized on several walks, but couldn't pull out a win.

Nathan Villegas threw 4 1/3 innings giving up just one hit to Jaime Cortez of Toppenish in today's opener against the Toppenish Baseball Club. Israel Hernandez threw the final 2 2/3 innings allowing no hits and getting the save. Nathan also had a great day at the plate going 2-3 with two triples, Sam Glazier hit a triple, and Trey Trepanier and Matt Ward were 2-3. Defensive player of the day was Sterling Haas who caught both games in 100 plus degree heat and threw out two runners.
Joey Mitchum got the win in game two giving up just four hits with six strike outs, followed by Nick Butterfield who got the save allowing no hits in two innings of relief. Israel Hernandez, Trey Trepanier, Nick Butterfield, and Sam Glazier combined pitching efforts to hold the Mariners to just four hits with seven strike outs and no runs in Saturday's single nine inning game against the Mariners. The Flyers had a big day on offense with back-to-back-to-back-to-back hits in the first inning. They continued banging out hits with a triple by Sam Glazier (3-3), a double by Joey Mitchum (3-4), two more singles from Anthony Allen (2-3), and a bases clearing single to deep center by Trey Trepanier (3-4). Shane Jones and the NW Flyers battled wet field conditions as well as the Tri-Cities Atoms today losing game one in the eighth inning with runners on base. Tied going into the top of the eighth inning, the Atoms scored three runs taking the lead. The Flyers fought back, getting runners on, but couldn't convert. Trey Trepanier went 2-4 and Nick Butterfield hit a double.
The Flyers came back to win the second game in a 0-3 shutout by pitcher Israel Hernandez. Vinnie Carrillo had two hits, and Trevor Oswalt was the defensive player of the day with 2 put-outs at home plate. Photos

What a great week, no, what an awesome week! For over 24 years the Flyers have never turned down a challenge and this week was no exception as they hosted their first three day baseball camp and wrapped up the weekend facing some of their toughest rivals, the Tri-Cities Pilots and Tri-Cities Atoms.
The Flyers took their first career win from the Pilots in five years of competition in game one. Joey Mitchum threw a complete game with three Ks, six hits, and three earned runs. He went 2-4 at the plate with a two-run double. Matt Ward had the hot bat for the day with three singles.
The Flyers ran out of gas in game two losing 3-0. Nathan Villegas lost the pitching battle allowing just 4 hits. Sterling Haas put up the sole Flyer hit for the game. Photos

The old boys came back to town to play the NW Flyers on Sunday. The Flyers took advantage of five walks and six hit batters along with six timely hits to put together a 0-10 win in the first game over the Flyers Alumni.
The Alumni came out swinging in the second game and ran up the score 11-2 through the fourth inning. Shane Jones and Billy Van Kempsky each doubled. The Flyers fought their way back over the next three innings scoring nine runs to tie the game, including a three-run double to deep center by Joey Mitchum. In the top of the eighth inning, the old boys decided they didn't have anymore pitching and the game was called.
It was a great day for Coach Wagner having many of his Flyers from years past back in the ball park together. Everyone had lots of fun enjoying the game, Cracker Jacks, and great food served up by Steve Willet, our terrific Autohaus sponsor. Photos

The Flyers pitching staff only gave up three hits in an 0-11 shutout in Saturday's first game against the Toppenish Baseball Club. The Flyers banged out 10 hits with Dion Tobia going 2-4, Nick Butterfield was 2-3 with a double; Sam Glazier smashed a triple, and Will Packard rang up a double.
In the second game, the Flyers jumped into the lead in the first inning with six runs on three hits and four walks. They rang up eight more hits and four runs taking the win. Israel Hernandez hit a three-run single, Joey Mitchum went 2-3 with a double, Nate Villegas was 2-2 with a double, and Anthony Allen also went 2-2.
Jaime Cortez went 2 for 3 with a home run for Toppenish.
Game 1: Pilots 9, Flyers 6. Will Packard 1-2, sac fly, RBI; Nick Butterfield 1-3, RBI; Joey Mitchum pitched the complete game.
Game 3: Toppenish 6, Flyers 3. Nick Butterfield 2-2, Sam Glazier 1-2, sac fly, RBI. Rookie Trey Trepanier had the defensive gem of the day and Nate Villegas took the loss for the Flyers.
